While in Arizona in January our plan was to spend as much time as we
could outdoors; from hiking, running, enjoying the scenery and golfing.
Yes, I went golfing, I wasn’t very good but it was fun nevertheless.
With the large amount of time Peter and I spend indoors and on the
computer we like to take sometime to distress. Our stress isn’t ever
going to go away, so we schedule some mini and long getaways every other
month or so throughout the year to hit the restart button.
Also, did you know what hiking makes you happier! A study conducted by University of Michigan and Edge Hill University in England published in the September issue of Ecopsychology published that nature walks reduce the negative effects of stressful life events.
So, if you have the opportunity to enjoy some nature walks, take them!
While in Lake Havasu
we researched which Arizona trail we wanted to take on. Since we were
already in a gorgeous area of the state we decided to stay in the area. We discovered a popular Arizona trail; Crack in the Mountain Trail so that’s what we did.
The hike is about 5 miles, you start in the desert, make your way
through a crack in the mountain (which is the best part), and you end at
the picturesque lake.
It’s advised that you shouldn’t hike the trail for several days after
it has rained because water may block the trail. It had poured the
previous day but we decided to do it anyway and see how bad it was.
We weren’t able to make it all the way through the crack in the mountain, sad.
We had to go around the mountain in order to reach the end of this
Crack in the Mountain Arizona trail. You can see in the photos how
narrow some of the sections are so when it rains it contains the water
in the mountain which makes it impossible to go through unless you’re ok
with getting wet.
We all enjoyed the hike very much! The way back was harder than going and just made it back to the car before sunset.
Hope you loved the photos of this unique Arizona trail! Do you
ever go on nature hikes? Let me know, I’d love to hear from you and
where you like to hike.
